Today was Grand Canyon day! Las Vegas is about 4 hours outside, which is nothing for us now. We made a quick stop at the Hoover Dam as we crossed into Arizona. It was huge and fascinating to look at. We were surprised to see some many visitors so early in the morning.

When we arrived at the National Park, we could barely wait to go have our first look but we decided to set up our site first. It’s really difficult to stake a tent into such rocky ground but somehow we managed. The winds were gusting very strongly, too.

Seeing the canyon for the first time was so amazing! My pictures completely pale in comparison to the real thing. I couldn’t capture the colors and the vastness of what I was looking at. I highly suggest going…it’s such a sight to see. I also think coming in the spring is much better than summer because it wasn’t very crowded. The only problem is the low for tonight is 29 degrees.

I didn’t expect to see much wildlife but I did see a few beautiful birds and as I was walking back from the bathroom I almost stumbled right into a deer! She didn’t seem to really care that I was close enough to pat her. We also saw a few elk then a moose wandering around and a coyote ran in front of my car.
